The following skills must be assessed as part of this unit

problemsolving skills to position holds and set a route appropriate to the level of difficulty

climbing skills to understand the physical demands and dynamics of climbing on a range of artificial surfaces

rope handling skills to maintain rope safety while route setting

first aid and emergency response skills appropriate to the location to enable initial response to emergencies and personal health care

Required knowledge

The following knowledge must be assessed as part of this unit

organisational policies and procedures to enable safe conduct of activities

equipment types characteristics and technology used for route setting on a variety of artificial pitches

care and maintenance of route setting equipment such as cleaning of holds to ensure prolonged life span and safety requirements

forces placed on holds during climbing and the affect this has on the placement of and distance between holds

Assessment must ensure participation in route setting activities on artificial surfaces that are of a sufficient duration to allow the participant to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance

Assessment must also ensure access to

resources and information regarding route setting and climbing to accurately select equipment to position and fasten holds

suitable artificial climbing sites that allow participant to Apply route setting skills

route setting equipment such as harnesses helmets ascending and descending devices ropes holds and fasteners

Method of assessment
